2016- WHERE IT ALL STARTED
Well actually it started towards the end of 2015 when we got together over drinks and discussed what our resolutions would be for the year to come.
Diets, budgeting, the usual mix of being healthier and taking more breaks.
One common theme that we shared was giving back to the country we all so dearly love
DUM DUM DUM… MAD CHARITY PT 1
A bit silly on my part was never googling if the name Mad Charity was taken, man logic prevailed as I thought why would it be? Whoops…
Although now MAD Leadership Foundation they kind of already had dibs on the name MAD Charity…
MAD in their name is an acronym for “Make A Difference”. Funny enough that’s exactly what we wanted to do, make a difference.
Needless to say we weren’t really dreaming too big back then and so I just went with it and made social media accounts to try raise awareness to our cause.
We kicked the year off by collecting previously loved clothes and the response was phenomenal
A lot of people really came to the party, cleaned out their cupboards and we ended up with some 30+ bags which we sorted and gave to the Rivers Foundation.
Throughout the year we did drives for:
Easter Eggs that we took to a number of orphanages
Dog food for the SPCA
Baby Goods for the door of Hope
and Blankets for Winter.
The support we received was really flattering and enabled us to do a great amount of good for such a small movement.
MAD CHARITY PT 2- MAD OKES CHARITY
Towards the end of 2016 a number of things had become clear from the whole years work:
- People want to give
- Everyone has something to give
- And that we needed to make giving as easy as possible!
On that last point….
Most of the people we spoke to would love to contribute but didn’t have the time to get donations for the monthly challenges to us. We didn’t want to take money from people because we were really a grass-roots movement and couldn’t give that level of accountability.
We decided to register and legitimize our efforts and that’s where we find ourselves now. Part 1 of 2 has been completed, we are a registered Non-Profit Company and are in the process of registering as an NPO.
All this has kept me busy as a necessary evil but away from pushing my true love, the monthly challenges.
We are in the process of hiring someone full-time so that the challenges don’t get neglected again:)
We hope to really get the rest of 2017 off with a BANG and we’d love/appreciate your continued support!
